When it comes to being daring in the fashion world, you can either go big or go home – I always try to avoid the latter. However, being a university student and having to commute to and from school, it can get quite tedious having to strut the latest fashion trends whilst having your head buried in the books. I wanted to find a middle ground between sporting a sophisticated, high end look, while being comfortable and efficient for school. When I caught my eye on the See by Chloé spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I was instantly drawn. I absolutely adore the polka-dot and stripe pattern that play a crucial theme to the collection, as well as the reoccurring monochromatic theme and contrast between dull and bright colours. I also admire the “English rose living in Paris” vision that Clare Waight Keller wanted to capture through her clothes.
As any fashion admirers would do, I proceeded to recreate the look and make it school-appropriate. Of course, the See by Chloé collection is centered around patterns—specifically polka-dots and stripes. I was ecstatic to find a lovely black and white polka-dot wool skirt, which acted as the focal point of the outfit. I tend to struggle with pairing the top with the bottom and vice versa and did not want to make the outfit too sophisticated. Thus, I opted for a black crop top, which I thought went perfect, since it showed off the beauty of the skirt and allowed simplicity to shine through. Being that it’s a bit chilly outside and tights have become my second skin, I paired the outfit with black tights along with black boots—maintaining my go-to edgy style while keeping the sophistication of the skirt. The outfit was also accompanied by my favorite leather jacket and signature watch and skull ring, which adds a cool and effortless edge to the classic and romantic ensemble. Monochromatic styles seem to be my intrinsic calling and thanks to this collection, I’ve gained more insight as to how to pair specific clothing without worrying about clashing.
The See by Chloé spring 2015 collection inspired me to incorporate more patterns into my wardrobe and also fulfilled my Parisian-obsessed needs. The nonchalant yet dynamic vibe radiating from this collection gives “chic” a whole new meaning, which I strive to adapt to my personal style. I’ve learned that transitioning a runway trend to the school hallways isn’t that difficult after all—you just need to channel the mind of a runway fashion show and rock a staple piece that would define the rest of your outfit!
